The Final of District Men's Singles was played on Thursday 29th September.
In what was a great game of bowls to wrap up a wonderful competition Greg Robbie (Algester) defeated Shaun Toomey (Algester) 25 / 23.
Shaun, playing in only his first District Singles Final, opened up a handy lead of 11 shots after the first 17 ends. However, the experience of the former Champion came to the fore and Greg fought his way back to still be in contention being only 3 shots behind at the 29th end. A 4 to Greg saw him take the lead for the first time and by the 35th end and over 3 hours of bowls Greg got up by 2 shots.
As an indication of the high standard, of the 36 ends played, 26 were 1 shot and 9 were 2 shots.
From a field of 46 bowlers Greg and Shaun proved to be worthy finalists.
Thanks to Moorooka Sports and Community Club for hosting the event and for conducting it in the most professional manner.

District Pairs Championship:
The Pairs final played at Moorooka on Wednesday 16th November turned out to be a game of 2 halves.
At the 10th end Graham Lewis and Paul Williams were leading a very tight game, 7 shots to 4.
The turning point came when Mitchell Mears and Greg Robbie scored 4 on the 11th and 5 on the 12th to shoot to a 13 / 7 lead.
From that point Greg called on all his experience to construct heads looking to consolidate with ones and twos, stretching their lead and forcing their opponents into trying to create avenues to score multiples.
The eventual score then blew out to 25/8.
Young Mitchell Mears had a stand out game with a Man of the Match performance.
Congratulations to all players for advancing to the final. Well played Mitch and Greg.
Thanks must go to Neil Jennings and the Moorooka Sports and Community Club for hosting a wonderful event.
